All engine depots have their problems, but I've heard good things about phase2motortrend. There are a few blacktops. The S14 and S15 blacktops, or notchbacks, make the most power since the both have T28 turbos, but they're a little more expensive.
CORN DOG- SR20's are aluminum blocks.

Sr is easy as shit, TONS of aftermarket support, makes great power (300 rwhp with a few bolt ons and a tune), reliable, and inexpensive. Definately the way to go imo.
I just finished a s14 ka24de swap in a s13 today.
it seems like the OP doesnt want easy, He wants to be "different" RB25's are common now, 1Jz not so much. LS V8's are common in driffting/racing and some NA VQs are roaming around.
Built + ported head on a SR + bigger turbo fuel etc nets you 400 Wheel HP with no need to open the block.
i guess its all preference @ this point??
This is actually kind of an old thread so the OP probably already found a swap lol.
I still stick with the advice that was given to me when I bought my S13. Just research the s*** out of all your engine options, find one that appeals to you, drop it in and pay no mind to how original the swap is. That's why I got the CA, not because it's the cheapest, because I actually like it.
