    Default Retro Time!

No not as in getting down 70's retro but I'm finally ready to retrofit a set of nice projectors into some headlights. When I saw the how to retrofit thread over in the "how to" section, it just gave me that motivation to actually get all the parts and materials finally. I also bought a second set of used headlights to install them in so I didn't have to worry about driving around without headlights. But man o man the headlights are super fogged up though. I'll be randomly updating this thread of my progress.

    Parts list
    • Shrouds: E55-R
    • Projectors: FX-R Bi-xenon (LHD)
    • Bulbs: Morimoto 5000K D2S
    • Ballasts: Morimoto 35w Digital
    • Wire Harness: H13 Bi-xenon

I can't wait to finish either haha. But here are the super fogged up headlights that are going to get retro'd. One headlight has finished. I'll probably get a shot for comparison and a shot of a new way to uv-protect re-polished headlights with this sealant. Where you mix UV Sealer-Helmsman Spar Urethane(Indoor/Outdoor)Clear Gloss mixed with Mineral Spirits(1part urethane to 1part mineral spirits). I learned of this process from an auto detail forum.

The link Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea - Auto Geek Online Auto Detailing Forum

Not sure if this is old news to you guys but it's been proven to last 6months and the OP is still updating the thread of it's great success. I mean it's for sealing wood but I'm going to take a chance and try it out.

I figured for the broken tab, I'm just going to somehow glue it back together with jb weld or something.

It'll be fine, my aftermarkets didn't come with tabs but the bumper and hood hold it in very tight no shaking.

I got the same harness, ballasts, and same brand bulbs, but went with 4300k.

Hopefully mine will be done in the next couple of weeks. Mines an 02 so my headlights are a bit different of course, whereas it seems like the 04 was made for projectors.

Nice I'm guessing you got it through TRS as well? Man I always felt the 02's had an advantage over ours since I use to see so many of you guys with retro'd headlights. You should post some pics up whenever you finish with yours.

So I finally got off my ass and started working on the projectors haha. Here is a shot of all the things needed to tear apart the lenses from the housing. I highly suggest using an aftermarket headlights vs oem, because man people were kidding about them being a bitch to open. I found out the perfect temp to remove it though. Bake the lights for 8min at 275F and it should make it somewhat easy to pry them apart.

I didn't take any pictures of the reflector and shrouds being sprayed but there basically black now. Here's some shots of me ghetto retroing the lights behind a target. I left my clamps at home and I only had masking tape with me ha. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics on the next three pictures.

    The cutoff shot.

And this is how it sits as of right now.

Next on the list is to get the lenses back on and I'll be set!

    Adds jdm 5 star style!!

Lol It's only there so it can hold up the projector while I'm letting the silicone harden and letting the mounts hold up from behind. The tape will be obviously taken off.
