Default Ordered some new speakers, still have questions

To start, I bought my 2002 Spec-V used for a really good deal because it had a few problems. One of those problems was that some of the speakers were blown. It has a nice Sony head unit in it. I just ordered four Kicker DS65 two way speakers for the front doors and rear deck. I bought some 1 inch spacers for the front doors as I believe I will need them. I am a total noob to car audio and finding info on speaker sizes for this car is like pulling teeth. I also ordered a Kicker 8" CVT 400 watt sub. I have the CVT 10" in my Subaru and love it.

What I am wondering is, does this setup sound somewhat decent? The stock speakers are gold in color and say "Nissan made in Mexico", this makes me doubt I have the Rockford Fostgate package. Will I need an amplifier (I don't really think so)? I know the Rockford Fostgate comes with a factory amp. Should I also get new tweeters? If so what size and what are a good budget tweeter?

Keep in mind this is just my daily driver and I'm not looking to dump buku bucks in this thing

You could have saved yourself a few bucks and made spacers out of the front speakers.

I wouldn't bother replacing tweeters since you got 2 ways already and that should be plenty of clean treble. Do you have the stock sub box? If not where are you going to put that 8"? If you do have a factory amp, it's most likely useless and you'll need to upgrade. You can check for it by looking under your rear deck. Also the rockford system is only branded and could very well be made in mexico still.

I didn't see an amp under the rear deck so I'm assuming its not the Rockford Fostgate. The stock sub in the rear deck is an 8 inch and I plan to just mount this sub in its place. Like I said I'm not really sure what I'm doing when it comes to car audio.

I am not sure about the rockford Fos. sentra systems, but what I would suggest is take you the sub and see if your new one would fit. Also, look at the wattage. If the new one has a high wattage, you MIGHT need another amp as the factory one might not be powerful enough.

Well the sub in the rear deck is 6.5", not 8". The 8 inch came in a separate oem box. If you're on a budget I would recommend buying a cheap amp, 10" sub, and the oem box from somewhere. That's my setup now and costed me maybe $100-150. Or keep your 8 you got and mount in the box so you won't have to do any modifying of the box.

F**k, I sure hope its not 6.5" as that means mine won't fit. It sure looks a lot bigger than the 6.5" rear deck speakers. Worst case scenario I get the stock sub box like you said.

The stock sub mounted ON the back deck (right next to the driver's rear speaker) is a 6.5" sub. So an 8" wont fit. Also the 8" i'm sure you bought is probably not a "free-air" sub so it will not sound nearly as good as a sub in an enclosure. Do what the guy above says. Find someone parting out a spec, and pick up the stock 8" box. Also the stock sub on the back deck is a form of a powered sub so hopefully you weren't planning on running the sub off the Sony headunit. You will need an Amp for the sub, and honestly to get the best sound, an Amp for the 4 coaxial speakers you are replacing. I've never been a fan of Kicker speakers or Subs, so i wont speak out against/for them.

I figure I'd update this thread for anyone who might find it in a search in the future. The Kicker DS65's sound awesome for the price and I think I'll put them in my Subaru also. I couldn't recommend the speakers more. They are great for anyone looking to do an upgrade from stock while maintaining a low price point. I wound up buying the stock Rockford Fosgate sub box off of a member here on the forum and am just waiting on my amp to come in so I can install it.

Just saw this thread and I'm glad you're getting a seperate amplifier. You wouldn't have near enough power to push that cvt without one. I contemplated doing this once, but wasn't sure how it would come out, excited to see the end result, good luck man
