    Default Tranny problems....

. I want to know is there a way that a buddy of mine can take his tranny out and add a fifth gear into his tranny? When he got the tranny he has now from this man. The man told him that its a 5 speed, which it wasnt and he gave him the wrong yr tranny to fit that exact motor. I been thinkin so could he just add the 5 gear into the tranny? Its a real gud tranny, its a 4 speed, all it needs is love and gear power. Oh yeah its a 94 sentra 1.6 mod too.

No, you cannot add gears to a transmission. He will need to buy the correct 5-speed tranny.

Well do i hear and seen that other ppl be adding another gear to their tranny, not just the sentra's but other cars? So i do believe u can add another gear into a car and i wanna see what other ppl on here might say. The ppl i have heard and seen was like one of cuzin and other friends around my way. The reason my cuzin had add another gear into his car (Chevy Caprice) is because he had a the classic kind, he put 24's or 26's on his chevy, had it lifted high, he couldnt leave the tranny the way it was. Cause if u put 24,s or higher on ur car like that, u have to change the axels, suspentions and tranny. In that note he changed the gears in the tranny and the only thing he did was add alil more power to the tranny. Till this day that same Chevy is still kickin' and moving faster and stronger on those rims but he sold it to another person cause he wanted sumin better now.

Changing gears in a solid axle is needed when going to a larger tires/rims. It has nothing to do with "adding" an extra gear in the transmission. A 4-speed transmission will never be a 5-speed.

So u are sayin that a Caprice is a solid axel car huh? Everybody has their own theory but i believe u can still do that but wit certain cars. Cause my cuzin has prove that wit his car, but im not goin to to this buddy of mine to do it to his sentra cause it wont work for this type of car. Thanx..........
