ok ive been through 5 MAF sensors on my 02 Spec, 2 this weeked! WTF is going on??.. i keep buying them used off a Junk Yard for 50$ each theres no way that ALL 5 were bad!.. i seems to keep blowing em while beating on the car.. the first 2 times were while attemting to launch the car off the line and the other times were while banging gears.. the car will just fall on its face and shut off i try to turn it back on n it idles stupid rough n shuts off i go n buy another MAF put it in and it starts right up with no CEL n it drives perfect.. am scared to even get on it wide open throttle.. its frustrating that this keeps happening.. so WTF???.. idk wat to do anymore! someone HELP!
for some strange reason ur maf keeps maxing out and blowing, try switching to a 04+maf, that will solve ur problem but then again it's better to find the issue then to find an alternative
Anyone??...
Got any leaks on your intake? I'd start there.
yeah, sounds like a vacuum leak in the intake to me too. Check the PCV where it goes from the valve cover to the intake; there's an O-Ring inside that plastic peice that'll fall out when ya pull it off if yer not careful/know it's there. You'll get the symptoms you describe if ya put it back without the ORing... (don't ask how I know![]()
that would make the MAF foul out?.. idk id think if anything a CEL would come up not completely foul out the sensor 5 times..
It won't throw a CEL, I've had it happen. One of my couplers popped off, just past the MAF housing. The car sputtered a second, then crapped. Are you sure your MAF's are bad?
Is there a leak in the MAF housing?
yea cause i put a new one in and it starts right up with no problem.. i switched them out wit a local spec n it starts right up with his but i put mines back on n it starts sputters then shuts off.. and everytime i get a new MAF it comes from wit a housing n they arent cracked
could be just unplugging it and pluggin it back in resets the ECU... <shrug> Vacuum leak checks are alot cheaper than part replacement.
Need to buy a new one and have it programmed for your car from the ecu.. Had this prob b4
bad maf sensor wont throw a code well at least it never has for me and ive sucked up water 3 times the past month and put the car in limp mode each time. ive never gotten a code from it. actually i take tat back it threw a code one time but its cuz i forgot to plug it back up lol
yea idfk wats wrong with this car...
I had what I thought was one maf going bad after another, got real pissed off one day and replaced the entire run of the main engine harness from the maf to the ecu. That turned out to be the fix. I have also had a tps (throttle position sensor) go bad that I thought was my maf. All in all I still have the original maf in the car (116k strong lol) it always turned out to be something else.

Ehhh i kinda got lucky in that someone was selling an engine harness super cheap at one point that I picked up just to have ... kinda got unlucky when it turned out to be for an Altima though, so over the years I have hacked out all of the useful parts. (Maf is in same location) I would go to the junkyard for that one.
On that note check the TB wiring too, the way it makes that u turn into the connector sucks. I replaced that too and solved a lot of intermittent issues
Man we got screwed on the 02-03 front, and mine's an early build![]()

Cappa i had the same problem as you with my old spec....bought it to 2 dealerships and they couldnt figure it out, i even bought it to a couple of mom and pop shops but no luck. I ended up selling the car to a mechanic. Also, ive heard about changing harness but i never tried since i sold the car after i heard about it.
