im planning to sell my 08 spec-v in a 4/5 condition with around 32k miles on it..how much do you think i can get from selling it to carmax? is selling a car to carmax worth it? or should i just sell it on autotrader or craiglists?
    thanks!

carmax probably won't cover your existing loan, (if you have one)

private sale will maximize your sale if you can get away with it

I would post it on autotrader / craigslist for sure. There's no harm in doing so.

Any pics of it or where you're located?

that's the dealer's way of avoiding pricing themselves too high on the trade-in. they know carmax will low ball you and they will easily match that.

    good luck sucker.

Selling it privately, you will likely get more for it. Just curious, how much are you willing to let it go for?

$25.86 and a free kitten that just showed up in the garage!

The glass is neither half empty nor half full. It's simply twice as big as it needs to be.

kbb has a trade in value. print it off and take it to the dealer, tell them you will not take less than that and going to buy a new car that day.
more than likely they will give in, cause they want that sell, just dont let them rape you on the back-end with the new car.

Buying from a traditional car dealer is nothing but a numbers game. The dealer will just find your "hot buttons" to get you to buy their car. You want more for your trade? Sure, they'll give it to you, while keeping any rebates that should go to you from the manufacturer. Or, the doc fee, acquisition fee, any other kind of fee will go up to compensate for your negotiation. Dealers negotiate all day long, 365 days a week. Remember that when you visit the place.

    Ask me how I know.

365 days a week... lol.... I hope you are not an employer...

OP, go to kbb.... get the best price you see for your car. Then go to car max and then compare how much they are trying to rob from you. You will see that it is in the thousands.

Add maybe two thousand to the kbb price and post it on craigslist because people will try to bid you down. The end result, you got a fair price for your car and the buyer got a good car.

Also for kicks, go to the dealership and talk to them for a few minutes. Remember the minutes part because they will try to make you buy their car and rob you of a fair trade.

    Walk in and do this.

You: 'How much are you giving me for my car?'
    Them: $xxx.55
You: 'Thank you.' ( Take the paper and laugh out loud as you walk out the door....)

I can't tell you how many times I have done that....lol...
