I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra Base. I was putting a new shift knob on and once I got it on I took it for a spin around the block. I noticed when I put it in first i hear a pop. I didnt think anything of it until I realized that the gears were very tricky to find. I cannot find 1st at all now. I have reverse and sometimes it gets stuck in 5th and 6th. Any suggestions? I know that before there was little to know play in the shifter before the pop and now it moves around alot and when it is in gear it the shifter moves as well. It kind of worries me since I just bought it.![]()

went to nissan and they determined that a piece of plastic in the shifter had broken. Need a whole new shifter.
check out allsentra.net (mostly 07's and up there) to see if anybody is parting out one...

had the same problem. there is a small piece of plastic at the front of the shift boot. check under the boot cover. there is about a 3.5 inch piece of plastic that holds the shift boot on. see if the shift linkages are rubbing. remove excess plastic until smooth shifts.
