do you think it would effect it at all if i just get it polished flat and leave the pits in it? I dont think the pits would effect it as long as the surface is flat and smooth
It shouldn't hurt it. Use a flat polishing stone or something similar.
That head is probably trash.. The cam can only have so much end-play (the amount that it moves back/forth in the head if you were to push/pull it. The limit is .007" (7 thousanths of an inch). If you put the cam in (with no buckets in so there's no tension on the cam), and there's more than .007" of gap between the cam and the surface that's gauled up, the head is no good.
well those kind of measurements im gonna take it to a machine shop so the can check it out
ok the time has finally comegetting JWT s1 cams and valve springs. Is there anything else that i should replace or do?
valve seals if they have not been done
ya i got that and im going to get an 07+ head gasket. I think thats it. What all should i have or tell the machine shop do besides remove the seals. Im going to be doing a PnP on the head when the seals come out. Its my first time digging into the motor so im a little nervous about checking all the clearance stuff and making sure everything works the way it is.
The machine shop check and ok that damage?
no i dont know if i want to spend the money to check. not sure how much its going to cost for them to check but i was thinking about just using the head thats on my car.i think it might be fine cuz the damage is only half the surface of where the cam sits so the outer half of the cam still sits like it should

I would spend the extra $ and have that head checked out. Last thing you want is to destroy your JWT goodies from excessive cam play.

ya thats why i wouldnt mind just using the good head thats on my car now
Or even having your timing chain slip off because the cam moves too much. Then forget about your whole engine. Just have them look at it when you replace you valve seals. It wont cost too much for them to take a few measurements.
i guess ill break down and have them check it out. the messed up one is my spare head so if it isnt any good i still got the one on my car
