Default Time to freshen up this clunker

Hello all, I'm a newbie here @ B15U. My wife and I purchased a 6spd '02 B15 Spec V with 87k, it was a fun car for a few hundred miles before major issues came up. The engine is consuming oil like a mother f*cker thanks to a recall that was never assigned to this vehicle. I fought with Nissan of America consumer affairs for a few weeks and they bascially told us that we're S.O.L. We both already fell in love with the car and since the interior and exterior is in excellent shape, we decided to rebuild the QR25DE, the way it was meant to be. The car has been off the road for a few weeks now so I've had plenty of time to put into research. My wife drove a beat up '96 Protege prior to this Sentra. This car was suppose to be a reward for completing her nursing degree, some reward huh? W/e, f*ck you Nissan of America, I will do it RIGHT myself the 1st time...pricks.

The build plans for the QR are as follows:
    • '07 crank, rods & pistons
    • trigger wheel, part# 12314-6N20A +4 bolts that hold it on
    • '07 MLS HG
    • ACL Race MAIN & ROD bearings
    • JWT BSR kit - purchased tonight from 2j - $85.99
    • Rebuild the head
    • Intake mani will get a face lift
    • DC 4-2-1 header w/ midpipe - purchased tonight from StreetSideAuto - $377.95 /w free shipping - CANCELED ORDER - going with 4-1 header instead.
    • LW pulley - purchased tonight from 2j - $69.99
    • new timing kit
    • replace the knock, coolant temp, cam and crank sensors
    • I can bet more parts will be added to once I really get the ball rollin lol

I like making build threads to help the community out and hopefully get the same treatment in return, stay tuned for pics guys

Here's a photo of my wife's baby outside of our apartment, at this point she was not starting up.

And this is where she is going to live for the next few weeks. Yup, it's small but it does the job.

    Your best friend:

    Also picked these up:

And here's a progress pic for tonight, Im gonna continue tomorrow:

Hehe thanks for the kind words guys. I love working on cars, as long as they are my own, I couldnt do this for a living

So I canceled my DC header order about 20 minutes ago. I am trying to find a 4-1 design instead. I think I'm gonna get MikeSpecV's header from B15sentra. People seem to like his stuff.

thank fuckin god....finally a new member with common sense to research first....WELCOME!!!

looks like you have got a good idea of where your going. if you would like any parts i have some things for sale for cheap, as i am almost complete on my build but have decided to change some things around. pm me if you want to know what i have for sale.

also, take a look at my build thread in my sig. there is tons of info spread throughout and plenty of pictures to see what your getting into. good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask here or pm me. i helped beohsix through his rebuild and he just fired it up the other day with no issues so id say thats pretty good help from over 1k miles away lol.

oh, and you dont really need the quick disconnect tools unless you are taking the line off the fuel rail itself. you can remove the line at the firewall with nothing more than a pocket screwdriver.

I hear you on the research thing. I see it all too often on EVERY forum I join, "lets create a thread in something that's been covered a million times already" I bought the disconnect kit just so I have it if I ever need it, I like to buy lil crap like this so I can fill those empty spots in the toolbox hehe

Happy 2012 everyone! I'm off to work on the car some more today, hopefully pull the motor if I have an extra helping hand. I can't wait to have the engine on a stand and really see what's going on inside. I'll post pics later.

quick question: I'm in the middle of removing the axles from the transmission. I have removed the drivers side, by following the FSM instructions, which had me remove the knuckle from the strut. Well, I am on the passenger side now, do I have to so the same? FSM doesn't say that I do, it doesn't sound right to me...

PS, yes this is my 1st time working on a FWD platform

Even though my instincts are telling me to go ahead and remove the knuckle from the strut just like I did on the driver side, I figured I'd ask here first as I dont wanna cause extra work for myself if I dont have to Thanks ahead for any replies.

Yeah, break the axle nuts loose first, jack it up, drain trans fluid, remove knuckles from struts are pry the circlips out of the trans, then the hardest part is getting the damn things out of the hubs.
