so yea thats how i felt around noon today. i finally got my new "maxima" fidanza flywheel installed, new exedy clutch, new clutch fork, To bearing, pivot ball, retainer spring, axle seals and everything else put back together. fresh br synchroshift II...install starter and put my jack under the crossmember just to be safe. prime the fuel twice and bump the key...grind grind grind. ok ill pull the starter and roll the FW over cause maybe the gears didnt mesh right between starter and FW. put back together and grind.
came in and pour 16oz of whiskey and hit google. apparently fidanza sold the same FW to fit maximaz and 350s. 350 has 124 teeth on the ring gear and maximas have 125 teeth.
at this point i have 2 options and the first is a long shot. take the starter to a starter shop in town to see if they can put a 350 gear on the maxima starter. 2nd option is drop the trans again (4th time in 2 years) and see if fidanza will fix the problem or ill have to ass up for a correct FW.
ok, rant over and im going to poor another fucking drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would try for a new starter gear.
that sucks...hopefully youll get it running good before to long
ima try and make IFO in Baton Rouge, get it running and bring it too

shit i forgot to update. after talking to a guy on maxima.org we came to the conclusion that swapping gears wouldnt fix it. the problem come from the gear not sitting close enough to the flywheel. a plan was devised to shim the stater on the right side to point the gear closer to the FW. a few min of thinking brought me to simple metal coat hanger. i cut about 6" of it out and bent it in a c shape to follow the line of the starter. i got it in place and eased the top bolt in and got it finger tight to hold the shim in place while i tightened the bottom bolt. everything snugged up and it fired right up with not a single grind. now if i could only get the pass. side axle seal to stop dripping my BGII i would be set. i put a brand new seal in while i had the trans out and its leaking. i just picked up another new one and im going to install it today i hope.
my fix is ghetto but nobody but you guys will ever know its there![]()
Hah fuckin McGuyver over here lmaoGood shit, glad you got it fixed and you can enjoy it again. How do you like the new FW?

i just got it off the jackstands a few hours ago and made one trip around the block. i had a bad axle seal that i put in a few days ago while the trans was out. iter it was flawed out of the box or i knicked it putting the axle back in. i got another one yesterday and let it sit over night with lube in the trans and it didnt leak a drop over night so i took it for a drive and so far its still holding.
on the road again
yea

yep, i got a little more driving in a little bit ago, maybe 10 miles and i must say it was extremely hard not to do a good roll on. the vq is nothing impressive out of the hole on street tires but that 3rd gear pull is so fun and all i wanted to do was try it out with the new clutch and flywheel but i held it back. it was nice to get back in a car with a more linear power curve though...it made the twisties a lot more fun instead of scarey.
