Well lets start with some back story.
About 6 months ago I saw an add on Craigslist, for 17" gram lights. Add stated 3 wheels, one has a crack. In my mind I thought 2 good ones, one bad one, I might as well look into it and see if I can have some "drag wheels." Kid was asking $200 and I offered $150 cause I didn't need them really. He stopped texting me.
Last night, I did a gram light search again, and saw he was still posting it, with an add a month old already. This time asking $100! So I got the info. It was supposedly 4x114 17x7.5 and +40, perfect! I thought these were the gram lights, 5 zigen, nismo look alikes....
I went to pick them up today, and on the way he tells me look for an integra. Immediately my heart sank because integras are 4x100, and I assumed they came off of them.
I arrive, and we go to the backyard to look/get the wheels. From a distance I can already tell the spokes don't match up to the gram lights I knew, or was thinking in my head. Once I got a closer look, it didn't matter what lug patter they had, I was taking them for $100. Lolol.
Some curbage on the right wheel
Hairline "crack"
Minor curbage on the cracked rim
Backside of the spoke with the crack.. What crack?
Legit
Turns out to be 4 Rays Gramlight 57S 4x100 +40 wheels, 3 with basically brand new kumho ecsta AST's, and one with a hairline crack that looks like a paint chip, doesn't go all the way through either. "cracked" one has MINOR curbage, and another is not too bad. The other two are MINT!
These wheels are pretty light! I'll get them on a scale soon. And a quick search shows me these are discontinued. You can buy the few left in inventory on "sale" at $305 a piece. Lol.
I may resell them, or see what I can get for a trade... My friend has an mk2 jetta which is 4x100 though, so if he wants them he gets the friendly discount. Not sure how it'll look on his car.
Either way, great night!

woot
sammy have joe redrill the hubs for 4x100
fix the one wheel [can't be more than 150]
you then have a unique non copyable [for the most part] wheel setup
but ditch the ast's i went thru mine in 3500 miles and hated each slip sliding moment of that mileage
will you need new spacers too?
thats a great find
you have to change your name
more like sammytheblessed

7.5" wide wheels and 235/40 tires sound like turbo wheels to me
hmmm
lol
i can't wait to see what your turbo setup will be like

Sammy, - barry has a good point. I can redrill for 4x100, or we can run bolt on adapters with a 15mm integrated spacers. HR and others sell them. But if you have our long studs it wont work, you'll need to switch back to oem length studs.
At any rate, dont sell them. We'll get them to work. The other option is I can drill the rim for 4x114. Do you know if the smaller OD holes line up for 4x114?
Well these wheels are actually 17x7" according to the sticker, so it's not really wider :/
Wheel width isn't determined from lip to lip is it? Cause I'm measuring a little over 8", the current tire size on them is 215/40/17 and looks to fit fine.
I have no idea where the kid got the info he was giving me originally. Lolol.
I put these on the bathroom scale, not sure how accurate it is. Without tire it's 16-17lbs, with tire is about 35lbs which makes sense, these ecstas weigh 20.1lbs new from what I've found.
I texted joe about re-drilling the wheels for kicks. They look good set next to my car, but I really want a wider rim if I'm switching the O.Z's out. 15lbs is hard to beat.

Oops, I failed at reading the sticker on the wheels. They are indeed 17x7.5"
Joe says they've been using some HR wheel spacers with studs attached without any problems. I may give some 4x114 to 4x100 spacers a try!
Also, these can't be machined to 4x114 because the back of the wheel isn't set up for it. There would be some gap. Oh well

Sammy, I cant find any that are hub centric. If you like, we can custom make you a set of 20mm spacers, 4x114 to 4x100, that are hubcentric, with 50mm 2JR long wheel studs. Would take us about a day. And would be about $150 a pair. These arent cheap but they would be the only hubcentric ones in existence (that I am aware of)
Yeah, I guess the part of the spacer that sits on the hub would need to be 66.1 and the part that sit on the wheel the bore of the wheel (not sure, it may be 71 something).
20mm would be the smallest it could be made? would 15mm be cutting it close? Still not sure if I'm gonna keep these, but it's tempting...

With approx $300 in just conversion spacers, I would try to just flip em
Well, wheels went today to my good friend. He had an stock mk2 jetta, and a guy offered to trade a decent e30 325i which my friend actually used to own this exact car 2 years ago. Funny how things work? Lol.
So he got the friendly discount. He just can't ever sell the wheels without me making money off of it. Lol
We test fitted them, and wow, the e30 needs an aggressive offset to fit any wheels. Check this out:
We can barely squeeze a quarter between the wheel lip and the strut... Haha. Did a few test runs and didn't touch anything though. Spacers will definitely be on their way asap.
Didn't get a shot with all the wheels, but you can tell it's a sweet set up (fenders rattle canned black for now, only bad thing about the exterior. Lol)
