Default Discount Tire, why? Wont be back.

Well, I used to love Discount Tire because they would price match just about anything to get your business. I liked this as a consumer, and took advantage of what they had to offer.

My last tire purchase was for G019 Grid Potenzas, because I wanted long life warranty and decent all season performance. I had it price matched, and a coupon added to my discount, and got a great deal.

I find they installed the wrong tires, RE960 AS Pole Possitions. I'm not complaining because this was a pretty big upgrade. Lol. I did however lose out on the 50k mile warranty on the others, although these had 40k mile.

After 15k miles, 1 tire was bald! I rotated religiously. I purchased a used set of 960's on eBay and brought them with me to DT, showed them the bald tire, and they honored the 40k warranty on it. But as it turns out, Discount Tire no longer works on cars with spacers installed, so they could not mount my new tires, and I had to hassle with them for a long time to get the warranty money refunded to my Credit Card. I took the eBay tires elsewhere to get mounted.

Today I made another trip to DT. This time about 23k miles on the other two tires I hadn't replaced at the tread wear lines. I talked to them, and they offer to still honor the warranty, but they will not work on my car with the spacers. The other thing is they wont price match tires when I'm paying for the new ones with warranty money.
I tried all I could to get them to refund me to my credit card, like the last time, but they wouldn't do it this time.

I could do some crazy swapping around to get them the 2 wheels, but the real issue is I don't want to deal with DT anymore if they wont price match tires all the time. I just want my tire monies and they wont give it.

    /rant.

demand to speak to a regional manager and go over whoever's head it is that you're talking to. if you're under warranty, you're under warranty, no questions asked. can you not just bring the wheels in and have the tires mounted and balanced, sans car? don't take no for an answer, and don't give up if they owe you monies.

I could bring the wheels in since I have my stockers still, but they want to give me the warranty money toward new tires from them, or price match the tires I found, they say they wont do both.

Last time I dealt with warranty I was able to have them refund my card the warranty money after some dilemma. I don't want to deal with them anymore though, especially since my wheel spacers prevent them from ever touching my car. The lifetime rotation and balance is useless if they wont touch my car.

But I'll try a different store and getting a little more outspoken and see what happens. Lol

Why are spacers an issue for them? have you ever inquired.

i asked here in SO Cal and they told me it was because spacers can potentially throw off the alignment causing some tires to go bald super quick, or so the guy told me which is why they said they will no longer mount tires on cars with spacers

They told me because of the liability it puts on them when they are the last to touch the wheels, because of shorter studs, which is why I have extended studs and hubcentric spacers. Lol

just to play the other side of the field here, getting loud doesnt work everywhere. just today i basically told a lady to fuck off because she was getting loud. i warned her 2 times and the 3rd i told to bad and walked away and their aint shit she can do about it.

good luck sammy, i have never even thought about a tire warranty myself because they normally dont last a year and i figure ill just get blamed for it anyway so fuck it.

why not just take the spacer off, get the tire mounted and call it a day, then put spacers back on?

I hate discount tire. I purchased Falken Zeix that were "60k" mi. tires, then way over paid for their warranty bullshit ($650+, I was 5 years younger/dumber), then the tires were hydroplaning from baldness at 33k miles. I ended up getting Nexen N5000 17/215/55 for $380 out the door at a mom 'n' pop tire store in town. Went back with the spec and got the 215/45 for it for the same price. Orr Tire off 92 does a good job with prices too fyi. Good job Sammy in getting as far as you did with all the warranty and what not .

Fronts need spacers to clear my brakes. But the real issue is I don't want tires from DT because they are a pain to deal with. Lol

Learn the difference between frugal and cheap and we can have an intelligent convo. Why pay more when you can have the same for less? Why do you think I could afford a turbo bill at 22, a college student, and totally debt free?

Adam, I didn't pay for this warranty. It's standard with these tires, which is why I chose them.

Not trying to defend DTD but I work for a similar company. We don't honor coupons or price matching on warranty claims either-it's just an industry thing. You really can't expect them to price match on a warranty claim because nobody else in the industry does that!

There is only so much you can milk the system!

I may have milked it too hard. Lol. Last time they refunded the money to my card and I got a new "used" couple of tires.

exactly what they told me, but they did work on it, they just wouldn't put my 5mm spacers back on afterwards.

LOL, thanks for the link. Funniest thread I've read in a while. I would say OB is a moron, but he might come set my car on fire.

On topic, I've never had a bad experience with Discount Tire. As mentioned before, no place takes discounts on warranty work. That's just silly.

I use to work at DT back in the day like 5-6 years ago and honestly it was the most fun job i've ever had. Pretty much F around all day but still get some work done. Then corporate started implementing these "systems" and bullshit things we had to do which were fuckinganal to say the least (i.e. wirewheel the hubs so the wheel sat flush) needless to say I was out of there soon after cuz they got all these rules that's protecting their own ass a little TOO much

"I think we need to do a little street racing 101 and understand that, you know... as a general courtesy you should, uh, floor your car an additional 100mph over the speed in which you start. It's just like the, uh, '100mph courtesy'... You start at 60, you don't let off 'til 160. You start at 30, you AT LEAST go to 130. And attempting to, uh, run like Houston interstates with traffic directly in front of you... These 60 to 80 pulls; these 60 to 95mph pulls... What the fuck is that shit about?" -IMV Films
