Hey everyone, i'm looking at this '92 240sx with a SR20DE-T swap. Engine has around 55k miles. I test drove it and it handles good except when it hits around 4500-5k rpm, it hicccups (seems like some kind of computer cut-off limit where the fuel cuts out) The owner says it needs a tune. He won't go any lower than $4900.

Now i don't know too much about 240's with an SR20DET, all i know is i like the look and that they're popular tunable cars. Can anyone give me advice, is this a good deal $4900.

Sounds like a deal. Tell him to get it tuned with a dyno sheet and you will buy it.
those are the sellers photos. I saw the car and it's nice. The lower bodykit lip is shot, a few dings & dents and the bumper is chipping alittle paint. The drive terrain seems solid, i'm just not sure about the fuel cutting out at 5k rpm.
Pretty Decent deal....Get a second opinion on the engine hesitiation....
Check the shock towers all the way down for rust.
Run Carfax.
Push the car abit and check for smoke.
If all checks out...Go for it...The price is fair.
tell him get the issue fixed and youll cover the charges. a motor set plus a shell would probably cost you about that much anyway

well i owned afew 240s before i got my spec to me it is kinda over priced i mean yea it has a long list of name brand parts but it still needs to be tuned and there really isnt anything sayin that the current owner has just been drivin it around without it being tuned cause it sounds like they could have just used safc and a wideband to get rid of the hiccup problem and i have seen sr 240s for cheeper than that and you can actually pick up a stock 240 and get an sr and do the swap for around the same as picking up this one
Thank you! that's exactly what i was thinking. The tune has issues, it pulls strong to 4.5 rpm then starts to sputter and hesitate. He says it's just a simple tune issue but i'm just not sure i can take him at face value, plus he seems pretty desperate to get rid of the car although he won't budge from his $4900 price. I'm going to wait and feed off of his despair and try to get the price down 1k or so. His wife is on his case big time to get rid of it and he has a kid on the way so i'll wait![]()
I'm with the other guys, get him to get the car dyno tuned. What ecu/tuning is he using?
I say you should buy mine! lol Looks like a decent deal, Im with everyone else though about the problems. But its like what fwdnewbie says, you can buy a 240 and do the swap for a little less.
wow and to think im selling my 95 SE , Black top SR with alot of mods for $4000 in SFL and still no buyers for the last 2 years.
We have too many drifters down here that wants these cars for crack head price so they can smack the wall and be cool and offering me like $2500.
car was also done and wired in right but just no A/C which I have all the parts.
As for your issue hiccups could be a wiring issues , unless its hitting fuel cut, what ECU is he using ? and is the ecu flashed?
does the paint look oxidized on the hood to anyone else?
my buddy got a SRed hatch for 2500 that needs paint.
yea when formula d caught on these became very popular and as a downside to that they also became over priced just like alot of the popular cars its hard to find a really good deal on these now a days but they are out there you just have to keep looking and ine will finally show up cause when i bought my first one i took me 2 years before i found a decent one with an ok price

my boys sr20 240 was having the same problem. his also isnt tuned and he said it was because of that, but when inspecting the car we realized his intercooler piping was cracked and that was what was causing it.
