Default Garrett Turbocharger, T3/T4E, 60Trim Compressor, StageIIITurbine FAILED AGAIN!

    I have a Garrett Turbocharger, T3/T4E, 60Trim Compressor, StageIIITurbine

    Garrett Turbocharger, T3/T4E, 60Trim Compressor, StageIIITurbine : atpturbo.com

The first time I had this turbo fail was my fault, I kinked the return line and oil went everywhere the burnt up the bearings. Well now I am blowing oil out of it again and the shaft is pretty sloppy. I found this out because I blew off one of my couplers and I noticed oil dripping out of it. I thought I had some internal problems with the motor either valve guides or seals or piston rings because of a bit of smoke at about 14psi and 5k rpm to 7rpm. Well I think I have found what is causing the smoke, glad it is not the motor.

But the question is, what caused this turbo to fail again. I had it rebuilt by a company here in nashville, Turbo Auto Int'l Corp Nashville, TN, 37209 - YP.com. He told me the bearings were shot and gave them to me after he rebuilt them, they were pretty eat up, he also said my shaft was bent and had a few chips out of my exaust wheel from what ever went through my engine that chipped my valve im guessing. He repaired the shaft and put in new bearings. But why after about 10 to 15k miles has my turbo failed yet again. I'm lost!

This would be good to know.

I'm not sure, but my guess for the most common reason for failure would be lack of oil. That, or oil that is overused.

How is your oil feed line set up? Sandwich? And how often/what oil are you changing/using?

My line is not Sandwiched, I use 10w30 when its cold and a little thicker in the summer, I change the oil every 3k. My oil sender messed up, I have a new one but have not installed it yet, do not know what pressure is at. I have not had a problem with the pressure at the time of the sender failure so I did not rush on putting it back on, I lost my 1/8" BPT to 1/8" NPT adapter so I need to get a new one.

I have a bit of oil in piping it is not making it to the TB so the smoke out of my tail pipe is most likely coming out the hot side but have not taken down pipe off to look for oil yet.

Well I went up to the guy in nashville who rebuilt the turbo, he told me I need a restrictor, he said im pumping too much oil in, on a good note, he said he will put new bearings in it and fix it for free, but said if I do not correct the issues I have that are causing the turbo to mess up the next one is on me. Freakin Sweetness!

Your situations sounds very similar to mine a long time ago. I started noticing oil puffs inbetween gear shifts, the qr is infamous for its high oil pressure 110-120 cold with stock bearing clearances. It was pushing oil past the seals, well so i ordered that same restrictor and the puffing stopped. However a week later it came back and ten times worse, the restrictor was to much it killed the bearings. Hopefully this isn't your problem but the chip missing from the wheel could be due to a missing piece of your ring land. My car ran 6 months after noticing the chip out of the wheel after turbo replacement, to blow enough ring land out to start misfiring like crap.

I have yet to put a restrictor on it, I have some type of material getting in there eatting up the bearings and that does not sound too great for the rest of the bearings either. I just got everything back together and took it for a drive and its boosting so slow like the WG is stuck open or a major boost leak somewhere IDK all I know is this car is pissing me off. I want to get a new one and start from scratch.

You get 120 psi from your oil pressure? What oil feed line you're running? Max I'm running at the turbo is 80 psi on WOT

my oil sender broke so at this point in time do not know what the oil pressure is.

I just put the rebuilt turbo back on and its leaking back through the manifold, now this is the first time ever doing a leak test but I am pretty sure it should not be leaking back into the manifold please correct me if i am wrong. I have a video on the way waiting for it to upload to youtube.
