    Default MAF Location

Picked up a used Turbonetics kit from an 04 and I have an 02. I have everything bolted up and ready to go EXCEPT my MAF. I didn't take into consideration that the MAF's are physically different from 02-03's and 04+.

I've came up with a few different options but I'm not sure which is best.

    Option #1

I could cut a section of piping out (from the red line toward the filter) and use my stock MAF housing. Only problem with this is that it looks like it may be a tight fit because I will be adding a few inches in length.

    Option #2

Custom piping. The only problem with this is that it won't be as secure AND the BOV is recirculated. Does it matter if the BOV won't be recirculated with the custom piping?

I would just cut the intercooler piping and insert the MAF before the throttle body BUT I'm using the treadstone reflash for a tune. If the MAF is located after the turbo, I think I may run into some problems.

You can convert your MAF to 04+ or try to get an adatper for the 02/03 style mafs and cut that 04 one out.

Putting the MAF before the TB is an option, however, you would then have to relocate the BOV and make it non-recirculative (blow thru), the MAF would then have to be 18" away from the TB and the BOV would have to be a further 18" away from the MAF.

It's best to simply do the MAF conversion or just get a new flange for the 02-03 MAF and replace the 04 flange on the intake pipe.

Won't I have to use a SAFC to do the conversion?

Honestly, I have no idea. Doing the 04+ MAF conversion is out of the question for you?

^ Not out of the question - but will I not have to use a SAFC to do the conversion?

Yes you need one, because you have to raise your idle to 950rpms and you will have to use an air/fuel tuning unit to ensure it idles properly.

^ Okay - that works but I have one more question.

Does it matter that the BOV will not be recirculated if I ran custom piping?

What do you have in mind? Where would you locate the MAF and BOV?

Keep in mind the 18" rule and you'll be fine

    TB > MAF > BOV

    > = 18"

The only custom piping will be from the turbo to the filter. I will be leaving all of the other piping alone. So the BOV will be in it's stock location right before the TB.

Basically everthing is going to be exactly the same. The only difference will be that the BOV will not be recirculated like it is now. I'm just going to use the stock MAF housing and plug it in between the turbo and filter.

if the MAF is before the BOV (the turbonetics setup), you will need to recirculate (draw through). The only way to not recirculate is if you put the MAF between the throttle body and BOV (after the bov).

HOWEVER, there's a setting on the afc that might allow you to get away with keeping the maf before the bov and not running recirc. There's a user on here 'SupraFast' that has his setup this way...shoot him a PM.

would the pipes from the treadstone kit( filter to the turbo and the pipe to the throttle body) work with the pipe from the turbonetics kit?

The setting on the AFC is Decel-Air, when you PM him make sure you ask specifically about that so he knows what you're referring to.
