No shit Jason. Dropping a 100lbs. to get a better form would pay mega dividends. I used to have the hardest time not using my shoulders when I benched. Damn it drove me crazy. I tried all kinds of form techniques but to no success. Then finally I came across an article that helped me out a ton. Even shit like staring at a spot on the ceiling instead of the bar to keep your motion straight. I wish I knew what site it was.

Fix that arch jack! Your still strong as fuck though.

You're gonna end up with some SERIOUS lower back issues with that form. At the very least keep your ass on the bench.

I thought my 255lbs at 3 reps was pretty good. Lol. I was only 160lbs then though. I haven't worked out since high school, so a good 4 years. Haha.

Kinda hard to tell in the squat video since it's upside down, but keep that back straight!

unlike most of you guys, my goal in the gym is obtaining a SMALLER number. i could give two shits how much weight i can lift as long as the weight im carrying on my body is diminishing

And that was constructive criticism btw. I know I can't barely do even half of those numbers. Lol

Damn Jason Might be a dumb question, but what's going through your head right before those bench presses?

man, no pics but i got stories.

at the end of my freshman year in college i was 127 at 5'9". i couldnt even bench 95 lbs. 7 years later i'm 165 and can rep my body weight for 6+ reps. i can db press my body weight for 5 reps. the best thing about it is i'm no longer that skinny guy wearing baggy shirts trying to look bigger. i can wear slim fitting dress shirts (for work) and you can see a little v taper. i walk around in my cotton tees and feel solid.

i'm on whey, casein and multi.

the whole back arching is safe you know what your doing.. it's a powerlifting technique, you'll see it in the Olympics too.. keeping your back straight up flat actually can do a lot more damage.. You guys should try it and see for yourselves =)

As far as the mental status, i was listening too some pretty amping shit, but i was focused on the weights.. nothing more, no distractions, serenity, just me and the weights.. thinking about fucked up shit gets your distracted more frequently even tho u think it gets you AMPED AS HELL, it could also screw you over.

No one will ever convince me that arching your back is good. Sorry guy. I've saw enough injuries.

^ Thats kinda of one track minded.. its def better support thats why i say try it.. as seen in the video i posted..what ever weight you barely can do.. take it off the rack and just hold it up, maybe go down an inch.. just to feel the stability, which you might be shaking like crazy and have your body all off balance..

then perform the Proper powerlifting technique for bench press and see how much more stable the weight feels.. All in all, dont knock it till you try it, this is one of those situations where you can say that

The stability comes from secondary muscles. Not your position. I'm not knocking you meathead, just saying I ain't doing that shit. Clearly your form didn't prevent you from packing on some bulk and strength. I would rather do it the "right" way if you will. I wish you success with whatever form you choose.

    Guy in the video says:
"The powerlifting bench has...nothing to do with the development of muscles..."

So what's the point? Just drop the weight, do good reps, get bigger, get stronger.

Although I wouldn't bench like that, he did prove a point. That technique is for powerlifting, not necessarily to get bigger/stronger. Just to put up heavy weight.

But I'd recommend using proper technique and have solid reps with solid breathing.

guys you gotta understand powerlifting is just that POWERLIFTING. it's not pretty and muscle and fitness magazine cover, it's raw deal holyfield type shit. the point of powerlifting is just that POWER.. Lol i do drop weight and go for reps.. 4 plates (405lbs) x5 reps.. 425lbs x2 reps.. 315lbs x22reps thats how i always bench. oh and i do 405lbs max rep on incline bench..

honestly there is no RIGHT WAY because theres so many ways (arching your back, FULLY arching your back, flat back, legs up, legs straight, grips wide shoulder width or close even custom grip, reverse) .. it's like religion.. sooo many styles..but in your world its what you believe and thats cool but you should also understand other techniques and strategies around it ..

    Im also a bodybuilder.
