Default FS: running QR25DE engine $500, ebay header $50, carbon fiber gauge cluster item $10.

Okay I have the following and don't know much more than this out of all of it.

A QR25DE out of a 2003 Spec V, good bottom end, it smoked when running and yes it did run. I have done a leak down test cold and have numbers constant in the 5% range which is great. The bad, you can see oil sitting on top of the pistons, so that is where the smoke is coming from. $500 pickup it is ready, I have a hoist and a tire to toss it onto in the bed of your truck.

An Ebay header with down pipe and race pipe. It did help me diagnose a bad coil pack, as it was the only tube not discolored. $50 plus shipping if you want it shipped. I'll get a pictures up tonight, it has only been used to break in a cam.

A gauge cluster surround that is red carbon fiber simulation, I liked the look of it, just does not go with the rest of my car. $10 plus shipping. Wow the pictures don't do it justice.

I'm not mechanically knowledgable when it comes to motors, what needs done to fix the oil on piston situation? I could really use a spare motor right now, mine is burning oil, and had a lot of metal shavings last time I changed the oil plus I'm local with an 03 as well.

Nismo cold air intake, Nismo header, Nismo lower tie bar, Nismo rear sway bar, Edge downpipe, Greddy evo 2 exhaust, Ksport coilovers, 2-J racing anti lift kit,2-J lightweight crank pulley, FI-R shifter bushings, Rob's air diversion panel, Rob's LTB wheel hop aid, custom Rob's short shifter, More to come!

Bsr, nissport adapter, quick lift hood struts, j30 front calipers yet to be installed…

It can be one of two things, okay maybe three.

1.) rings are cold not sealing letting oil by them since it was on the stand and I had it flipped over to check to se if the balance shaft chain had been cut, which it has not BTW, and that could have allowed oil to slip down and then flipping it over allowed it to pool on the pistons.

    2. It has a bad set of valve stem seals, which would allow oil down the valve stems and pool on the pistons.

    3. Rings are well worn and or gouges in the cylinder walls allowing oil up into the combustion chamber and since it has not ran it has pooled on the head.

The second one is my likely suspect, but the 3rd also has a high probability.

The engine came out of a car in Canada that was brought down to Chicago for a VQ swap. It drove down but would smoke in the higher RPM ranges. The bottom end was said to have been rebuild less than 10 Kilometers before the swap. I checked the bottom end it is clean, no shavings in the pan, sounds like yours is about ready to toss a bearing. The Balance Shaft was still a functional item with the chain installed. I did a leak down, and found I would get about 90psi off my 100 PSI, but the front gauge was at 96 psi, so its a little over 5% loss on a cold engine. I don't have a test stand so I could not do a compression check. I picked it up from Chicago to toss into my first SpecV. I then picked up a second Spec that had an engine rebuilt by Travis, and that got installed, into my original spec-V. So I figured I would sell this engine off and then rebuild my other engine, which has a rod bearing knock, and go from there.

Thats the history as I know it about the engine and what limited knowledge I have of the engine with out doing a tear down finding the root cause and fixing / rebuilding it.
