this is a short and simple write up. I didn't get the rebuild kit because my boots weren't cracked or torn and the seal looked ok.. I just cleaned them up and greased them.
start with removing the caliper. use a block of wood or a towel to protect the piston flying out. use compressed air in the brake line hole to push the piston out.
here you can see the piston is threaded. there is also the groove for the dust boot and below that is the caliper seal.
you should be at this stage by now
remove the dust boot carefully and clean the piston with brake cleaner
next clean the dust boot with brake cleaner and wipe it off with a towel to remove any debris. also you can spray out the inside of the caliper and the bottom of the piston. make sure you blow it out with the compressed air before you assemble it
for assembly you want to use brake fluid to lubricate the piston. slide the boot over the piston and position it towards the bottom.
you are going to stretch the boot out so it extends below the bottom of the piston and then you want to seat the lower boot into the groove on the caliper.
after the boot is seated.. you can press the piston down and begin threading it. make sure you get at least 1-2 turns to get it seated and then you can use the square caliper tool or i use a set of dikes
keep twisting it CLOCKWISE and eventually the boot will seat on the piston groove.
now you just need to bottom out the piston and you're done.
