Default Thinking of getting the flex out

I've been reading about the flex the B15 chassis has due to the lack of welds. Anyone have pics of where the problem seams are? Or is "Do them all" the correct answer?

    Thanks!

I have the Truax Motorsports chassis bracing that runs underneath the car from behind the front wheel all the way back to where it connects to the trailing arm mount. It cut down on chassis flex very, very much. More so than all other bolt on bars combined I would say. A very easy mod to do similar to this, is weld all along the seam under the car that is between the front and rear wheels (where the two jacking points are).
When I have some free time I plan on doing some seam welding, I'll have to assess where the problem areas are. I'll post up when I do.

I appriciate it. Is this seam under the side skirts? I haven't looked under the car yet.

Yep. Gurov mentioned doing this a while back and said it made a noticeable difference. My bracing is tied in to the seam as well.

What seam are you guys talking about? I may have to give it a try, after I practice some more.

The seam along the underside of the car between the wheels (where you would jack up the car).

I'm going to have to look into this, if its not seen, might be worth a shot getting more practice on.

Would this be done from under the car, or can the seem be seen from the inside of the car?

It's done under the car. As a side note, make sure the car is not jacked up when you do the welds. Chassis welding like this needs to be done with equal weight on all four tires.

Here's an idea, and its going to be covered by the carpet...guess I will be pulling the interior again.

I think its the seam along the rockerpanels under the car. Going to do this soon as well as other spots that i find that look like could help with flex.

So if you don't have a lift the this isn't going to be doable?

If you had a four post lift, that would be ideal. But it isn't needed, just get comfortable welding while you're lying on your side

Notice the voids where it the foam dripped out.... our cars are spot welded every so often... if you weld that shit up I'm sure you'll see an improvement.

I did the foam on the seat rails, didn't do the rails along the side skirts. I might do that over the welding. The more I'm reading, the less I want to try it. Most are recommending not to do this unless you have a frame rack to ensure you don't flex the frame from the welding.

Flex the frame... well its unibody, so i doubt the side rail seams would be an issue... I could be wrong....
Only thing is if you foam, then I don't think it's a good idea to weld after (melt burn etc)... mind you my side rails are like 2x4's

I doubt welding the seams will heat the entire area enough to warp the chassis, Especially MIG. If it were a possibility, weld in sections and let cool. Going to get some scrap sheet and pratice.

like anything else you tack in spots to prevent warping then go back and weld it up. iv beenlooking at welding up the seam on top of front inner fender area in the engine bay. as far as not having a lift just jack it up and set it back down on ramps or cinderblocks now car is up enough to give you room to weld and it is sitting on its tires which is optimal. on flat ground
