hankook ventus v12's are the best cheap tire. do great in wet and dry, but the downfall is cold weather they lose grip. the michelin pilot sports are great, but they cost way too much to not last that long.

235/40/17 yoko s-drives for street. imo better than bfw kdw's on dry traction, great in wet traction and turning. look great too

hopefully you can find them, discount tire said I bought the last 4 their company has and I had them price match to $110/tire

This is so true. My tires are useless on 1st gear and I just have IHE/BSR. I just noticed them losing grip in the winter months. When I got them in the summer, they were great.

i am going to attend as many events this year as possible
[even though this car changes constantly, it usually carries interesting tires]
if you see me [hard to miss the flower] ask for a ride
r-comps are a whole different world

please hear me, i ran those cups with TOE out, not 1/8" toe in or even 0 toe
and still got 9000miles out of them
with a more normal alignment, they would easily go twice that
but then you miss all the craziness,
    instant turn in,
    what understeer,

i'm trying for 0 toe and 3deg neg camber on the toyos
we will see what the longevity is

but for $135 a tire compared to as much as $315 for the big m
    [540 with free shipping]
how can you not try them, if you are track oriented

caution, not for cushy, Cadillac like ride
    very stiff sidewalls

one more caution , i see many posts relating the the hardness of the tire
this does not tell the whole story, esp, when high power and non stock alignment takes place

    a tale of two tires
kumo ast, a/s tires, rated at 400 vs m pilot sport cups rated at 80
    you have seen the cups
so here are the kumos, after 3,500 miles of my normal behavior [track time, high power, and 0 toe, 1.5* neg camber]

under this usage, the 80 rated tire spins less, tracks better, feels safer and lasts longer
    go figure
but the kumos are less than $70 each

I have these tires for about a year now and there awesome. I have done two hard track days and daily them and have about 60% up front and 30 on rear (rotated them couple months ago). Only dislike is the sidewalls are weak.

Wow, thanks for all this info guys. Depending how my income tax return goes, I might just get some cheaper tires for my stock wheels, and buy aftermarket wheels and tires for the track. Then I won't have to worry as much about tread life for the track tires. Any suggestions on some lightweight wheels that don't cost an arm and leg? (also, 15 vs 16 or 17" size for the track?)

I'm looking at getting those Kosei's. I was sceptical at first because compared to other manufacturers they are cheaper for the same weight. There are alot of roads under construction around me, so I don't want a wheel that's going to get bent super easily (obviously I dodge what I can, but mistakes happen/can't be forseen)

Team Dynamics pro race 1. One of the lightest wheels for 17" and 4x114.3 Ive only seen 2 other wheels they weighed less and I thought they were ugly (I think one was Mag wheels)

Plus I like the way they look imo

So I went to a guy from my brothers car club to see what he could get me for tires. He quoted me like 225$ a peice for Yoko S Drive's so I said EFF THAT. However, he has Cooper Zeon RS3-A's for ~165.00 installed. The treadwear is rated like 500, meaning its a super HARD tire. He was concerned though that it would be too hard for the track. Any input on these tires?? (in regards to hardness etc.).

P.S. Keep in mind, if I buy tires and rims from the US I have to pay duty & brokerage fees along with shipping for them.

Sounds like you're getting ripped off pretty bad. 235/40/17 S.Drives are only $138 a piece from Discount Tire. Unless you dd on the highway all day and don't care at all about grip or performance, I would avoid those Cooper tires.

Any place in Canada has the same tires for like 75$ more expensive than the US. But the money I save, I'm going to spend in shipping and all those other fees. I DO DD on the highway to work everyday, but also care about grip and performance haha.

I read some reviews on these tires, and they've all been good. A few people have said they perform well on the track, but I don't know what they're comparing them to

Is there any tire companies in canada that price match? Discount Tire is one here in the states but idk if theyre in canada. But Ive seen the S drives as low as $110/tire, but can normally find $125 pretty easily

after four years as my main drag tires [stock 4] they became the famous rear tires in this shot

now they are being reinstated as my street drag tires up front with the new qr
even when worn to the blocks they make excellent drag tires

and imo too, make excellent inexpensive street tires
but once you experience pilot sport cups, it's hard to go back.
but at 1/3 the price, and 2/3s the performance it's hard to complain
