    Default Need some tire recommendations

I need new tires for the spec when spring comes around. I've been looking around on tirerack.com and such, but there are just so many to choose from. I'd love to hear some reviews (good OR bad) for stuff you guys have had experience with. I'm undecided on 215's (maybe spacers?) or 225's, as I'm hoping to do a bit of track time this summer. Thanks for any input

What size wheels do you have? I personally have 225/45/17's.

I've had good experience with the Hankook V12's. Inexpensive and damn pretty good grip.

How often do you hit the track? How important is tire wear vs. dry grip? I would definitely get 225's if you're on stock wheels.

My favorite all-around summer tire are the Yoko s.drives so far, but if you are built/boosted then "regular" summer tires won't cut it. I'm now stepping it up to R1-R's.

225/45 on stock wheels for sure.

And it's almost impossible to get long life, awesome wet/dry traction, snow, etc. so a little on what you want would be helpful.

Nt05's are in a different class than KDW's, I've driven specs with both and the Nittos grip ridiculously better than the BFG's... At the cost of tire life though.

I'd probably do a bit of tracking like once or twice a month. It's my DD, and I have no plans of going FI or anything for a LONG time haha (I'll probably get rid of it before that happens). I'm looking for more dry grip, but they can't be terrible in rain (as I said, my DD). As for snow, I live in Canada so I have designated winter rims and tires for that. Tire life, I'm not TOO worried about since I only have the summers on for about 5 months of the year anyhow. I'm undecided on what I'm doing for rims, but for now they'll be going on the stock wheels. Even if I do go aftermarket, they'll still more than likely be the same size (17 x 7).

i have the s.drives, which are great for dd and have good wet traction and even better, theyre one of the cheaper well performing tires, $100ish each, you can also bolt on 5mm spacers. i wouldnt get continentals or toyos, ive had both on the stock 17s, theyre both overrated, sometimes overpriced, and lack performance when not on dry ground. i will get s.drives again before i even think continental or toyo. if your looking for track tire, you want something more comp spec, wider, and wider spacers. dont forget about suspension if your looking to compete at the track.

I have the Eibach sway bar kit and 7K BC coils, so suspension (besides wheels and tires) is pretty much done. But thanks for the info, it does rain (and sometimes snow) quite a bit throughout March which is why I keep my winters on. But if the S. Drives are good in the rain, then it won't bother me as much. The stock continentals are brutal in the rain, not that it helps how much tread I have on them right now

    225's without a doubt.
I run Nitto Invo's and are very impressed with them. Dry traction is great and they've lasted longer than any other tire i've used already and still have bout 60% left. Wet traction is still quite nice considering its a summer perf tire. I'm gonna upgrade to NT05's this year but i do expect the tire life to decrease considerably. Being NA, all you'll need are Invo's or something equivelant.
Do NOT get Kumho SPT's lol... traction is great but i burn thru a set in one summer.

ah! the 7k springs give it away
so your fairly serious about track time?

    if so, start with these
    Dunlap star specs,
    brigstone re11s,
    or michelin pilot sports

    then move up to r-comps
michelin pilot sport cups [a fortune, but the best street tire ever]
    toyo r-888s

if you can hear my experience start with a good streetable r-comp
i went thru fords, Mercedes and Porsche's line up,
to see what came with r-comps, and what kind they were
Porsche ,zr-1 and c6 corvettes all came with michelin pilot sport cups
    these

absolutely wild, boarding on absurd on the street
i beat everything for 9,000 miles [on the street]

even thou these are only 225/50/15s they held the v6 just fine
and cut 1/4 mile times by .7 [slicks were over a sec faster] compared to kumo 225/45/17s

after 9000 miles and constantly adding toe-out

    caution
most autox orgs are aware, and will kick you out of street classes
on the other hand most drag strips may not catch it
    have fun

skip the bfg sport and HDW for track use [great street tire, lasts forever, sticky too
but not in the above catagory]

    all this is strictly
    imo

    wayyy to expensive for street

the s.drives grab good in wet with good lateral wet traction, and id give them a 2 out of 10 for snow traction, where as toyo (proxes) and contis are def 0 in snow.

but it sounds like you are looking for more of a comp tire, or higher end tire. i would take yogi's suggestions, i mean he's the only person here who swears by his 15"s, besides me

    I wish I had 17"s....

I'm looking at $600/set for decent 18" tires.
