    Default Wheel Weights

When its that time to get new wheels, weight is a very important factor that needs to be considered. Heavy wheels will effect the unsprung weight on each corner of the car. The more weight there is, the more resistence there is to spin them, meaning the car will have a harder time accelerating since it needs to spin more weight in order to move. Think of it this way, put a 1lb weight on the end of a string and spin it, now put a 2lb weight on the same string and spin that, it will take more effort to spin the 2lb weight vs. the 1 lb. Now think of it this way, that 1lb weight represents your stock wheels and the 2lb represents a heavier aftermarket wheel, ideally when you choose a new wheel set, you want to either match the stock wheel weight, or reduce it. The lighter weight means less effort involved in spinning it.

Here are some links to wheel weights, both stock and aftermarket:

    FYI:

    02-03 Spec-V 17': 17x7 24lbs
    04-06 Spec-V 17': 17x7 ~20lbs
    00-02 SE, SER 16': 16x6 18lbs

lol you dont need to quote the post. iirc 04-06 were lighter then the 02-03 by a couple of lbs. around 20lbs each maybe??

on my bathroom scales, my 04 stock wheels weighed 22 lb

i have some info from 5zigen which may be useful

if you remember i choose F01r-c, 17x9, 20mm et for mine
most popular here is the same wheel with 35mm et

well come to find out, the 35mm et wheels are much lighter [2lb]
    check here
5ZIGEN USA OFFICIAL SITE EXHAUST WHEEL RACINGGEAR

i choose the wider tread unaware of the weight disadvantage [15mm spacers weigh less than 2 lb each]

i'm not sure what the question is?

i run 225/50/16 tires most times
in dd i use about 35lb
    mountain runs 38lb
tricks, stunts, slips, and slides about 42lb
    and 23-25 at the drags

    i imagine for auto-x between 38-42lb

    does that help

don't use the max pressure listed on the tire side, use what's listed on the car to start with.

sorry I wasn't clear, my question basically is, are my rims and tires too heavy, in total at proper PSI my rims weight 45 pounds in my bathroom scale.

    a stock wheel weighs [04-06] about 22lb
most 215/45/17 tires weigh aprox 22lb [21-24lb range]
that would give you a 44lb wheel tire combo
your only one lb from that average weight
    well within reasonable limits
[tire pressure does not significantly change wheel weights within normal limits]

a lighter combo would help acceleration and braking by a small amount
car feels lighter on it's feet with 36lb wheel combos
    imo

Something else to think about is wheel/tire size altering gear ratios. I DD 04-06 spec wheels with 215/45/17

I autox 15x7 rx7 wheels w/ 195/50/15. Roughly 31lbs at proper air pressure. Its a huge difference in accel, braking, hard cornering etc. The tires I run are shaved R1Rs
