I've got a ton to say, tons to ask, and tons to explain; however, let's start at the core of everything.

I am a built and boosted QR25DE. The bastard year....2002. I'm on a Precision 5831. I am broken in, have injectors ready to be put in, and ready to tune.
I just this past week discovered from our local UpRev pro........*cries* that apparently 02-most of 03 QR25s are not compatible for UpRev.

The go-to tuning specialist here in this case STRONGLY recommends UpRev. I am sure many people here would as well. Tuning guy told my go to wrench guy and myself do some homework to make sure we CAN NOT get UpRev on this build before doing anything else.

Based on this, my first area I'm looking to investigate is if anyone here knows if there's a way to make this happen. At all. Whether it is splicing wires, replacing ECUs, whatever; is there a way?

Assuming that UpRev is not possible in any way at all for me here is what I know:

-MegaSquirt can and will work for anything. Tuning guy can do this just fine; this is our LAST RESORT.
-JimWolfe Tech: I understand they will do flashes on ECUs that are not UpRev. Cool.......but my list of parts is very out of the ordinary. Would you trust a tune that was developed not driving the car? Sounds scary to me, but please inform.
-2JRacing Flash: I believe they do the same thing as JW above right?
-Insert standalone option: Apexi Neo bla bla AEM thing bla bla bla. I would go buy a standalone and have tuning guy do his magic.
-AEM V2: Ok so this is the best of the best so far, right? This is my likely option outside of UpRev. I'm ASSUMING that going to a V2 would be the best I could do for this whole thing, but I am not really sure.

THANKS A LOT BTW! Before you blow me up, I REALLY TRIED to look for everything I could. All the info I was finding whether it be here on B15, NissanClub, or elsewhere was not what I was looking for. I can't find shit for boosted QRs that are not 04 or later >_>

I'm really looking for who is NOT tuned on UpRev and their feedback heh.......
All this information here about 02 to 04 ECU jumps is mega confusing to me at least. Will post in a few days after I make some sense of this

Uprev is possible with an adapter harness from 2j. You will need some other stuff like an 04-06 ecu, gas pedal, instrument cluster...

I also have a built and boosted Sentra. I was running a JWT flashed ECU. I did have to data log and send it back and forth to JWT for them to get the ECU fine tuned.

If you turn around and decide the uprev route is to expensive and would like to go the JWT route, lmk. I can sell you the one I have at a discount. It was set up for 8.5 : 1 compression with 60 lb injectors.

Joe @2j can sell you an ecu and cluster and all that so you can swap.

05 only can store 1 tune.

04&06 can store 5 tunes

06 uses a factory wideband. If you have that already then go ahead with 04 IMO if you can't find 06 for some reason.

But yes you can swap that stuff and use uprev. Not sure if you have to swap the pedal
@2002blackspec_v I know has a non NATS ecu. Not sure if he'd sell it. You'd still need a cluster. Like I said, you can buy it all from 2j

UpRev is WAY better than that other stuff. Use UpRev

If you have a local UpRev guy than you don't need the cable. But you do need the cable to mess with UpRev yourself

If you are going to swap, definitely swap to 06. The wideband primary makes tuning a lot easier.

While I wouldn't recommend tuning an SAFC, I can provide some pointers in that department as well.

Ohhh yesss!!!! So I did see Sammys video about the 06 being able to store multiple maps. Gonna try to get up on that.
I didn't see a harness at 2j I'm assuming the one place to get one of these harnesses is through moltennismo?

This is all golden info BTW thanks. I'm gonna finish my homework tonight reading up on the rest of how to make this happen so I can start part shopping.

To help you weigh the options:
Uprev is certainly the easiest and most reliable but does sacrifice certain potential features (the main one would be ability to control boost thru the computer as well as being capped by a MAF) Also note that it isn't cheap by any means for us 02-03 guys. I believe @raysh had about 1200 into his plus tuning cost.

Megasquirt is roughly the same cost but with A LOT more work involved. If you're not electrical savvy i do not recommend this route due to the fact that if there is an issue (which isn't uncommon) It can be tricky to track down and correct. That being said, the benefits of this ecu are amazing. Boost control, 2 step, antilag, ethanol content correction, mechanical throttlebody capability, speed density, the list goes on.

Reflashes aren't that accurate and therefore can be deemed "unreliable" but can be fine tuned with a piggyback system... but again, this can add up in $$$ (600 reflash, 150 piggyback, 300ish tune)

The only piggyback system i would recommend is the AEM F/IC.. Again, not the greatest option but its cheap, it works, can be fine tuned, and can pull ignition timing which is very important. This is the route i went before going megasquirt and had only minor issues with occasional stalling coming to a stop. Big thing with this system is it actually intercepts and changes injector pulse width and has a boost input so that you can clamp the maf and tune boost separately. Other piggybacks like the SAFC and what not simply alter the maf signal to change fueling. Needless to say, not very a good way of doin it.

So I figured even with all the extra stuff needed to get to UpRev, it will still be cheaper than getting an AEM V2 and getting a tune/dyno.
What I do need to know is what parts I need to acquire depending on what ECU I get.
-Cluster (gauges/dashboard cluster right?): I've heard these dont NEED changed, but changing to the 04+ makes everything easier. True/False?
-Gas pedal: Could someone explain why these needs replaced? The electronic clip on it?
-What is a pigtail by the way? Electric clip?

My understanding is that I do not have a factory wideband. Would this NEED to be added if I got an 06 system instead of an 04?

I'm getting tuned SOON so I will be back here updating. I promise I am not just posting questions upon questions with no point :D

CANT WAIT FOR THE DYNO WOO!!!!

Yea idk if the AEM even has the ability to read our trigger wheel. Could be wrong and you're not going that route anyway. But yea. Lol

Do you have the needed harness and/or other parts as well or just the ECU? Regardless, 04 sounds like my way to go; no wideband and I get 5 maps?! YOOOOO!!!
I will be calling 2J tomorrow to talk about obtaining this magical harness.

Does anyone else here have one of those harnesses they aren't using?

EDIT: My bad I didn't recall all of your earlier post. IDK what the MAF is about; am I replacing that to get to UpRev? Either way I am interested in ALL that stuff you have if you are parting ways with it!

call 2j, talk to Joe. i went from 03 to 06 uprev'd. Joe sent me everything that i needed, conversion harness ,ecu, cluster and gas pedal. everything was very straight forward with directions and with a built block and 1000cc injectors on E85 . started first time and runs great. 420 hp... switching to gt maf and bigger injectors to get MOAR POWAH! really you could do the switch in a weekend if not faster, i recommend it :)

MAF= mass air flow sensor.

You need a wideband to tune. 06 cars had a factory one so its better. If you go 04, you still need a wideband.

I'm sorry lol. I know what a MAF is, but does my OEM one need replaced when I go to tune?

My car already has a wideband gauge in it (1st bung I believe, pre-cat); is this what you mean or is it a different kind of sensor thing?

PS: Apparently my tuning guy bring an external wideband with him no matter how he tunes. Smart -_^

I'll let more knowledgeable people explain some of this.

But...You Probly DO want to talk to 2j.

06 can hold a more accurate tune due to the factory wideband. Over my head "a little", but these guys or [email protected] can explain it all to you.

@2002blackspec_v has 2004 stuff. We forgot to get the pedal from this guy a couple weeks ago :(. You'd need a pedal, and a harness from the forum member that makes them or from Joe. 2002 has 04 ecu, cluster, and MAF iirc

If you go 06 you also need the pigtail to wire in the wideband.

06 is best, so start with calling 2j tomorrow. Joe can also send you the ecu with a base tune already in it of you want.

If somehow Joe can't get you 06 stuff then you know where to get 04 stuff, and maybe @v_2 can run by that part out that was closer to him than me and 2002 and grab that pedal for you.

Easiest route BUY FROM 2j
