@DirtySpec I love you for creating this thread, despite your initial insistence on using a dry shot. I've seen what a dry 50 shot untuned did to a 350z after 40+ passes. It's pretty bad.

This thread pretty much help me decide how I'm going about using nitrous but it's more expensive than I initially realized, not so much the basic kit but the solenoids and electronic controllers involved.
@yogi b has pretty much answer most of my questions regarding solenoids but which ones should I avoid? Besides Zex and something no name? (personal experience at the bi-weekly races i participate in; everyone who's blown up their car or had a nitrous mishap just happen to be running Zex 'noids.) What I also didn't realize how short the life expectancy of the solenoids are when used in a progressive fashion. NX and the Ny-trec kit comes with good solenoids? Elaborate more on this please =)

While I have the money now to go nitrous I'd rather learn as much as I can before dropping $$ on my own setup, or at the very least install the stage 2 2JR clutch/flywheel that's sitting in my garage and be able to uprev tune (which i have yet to do).

NX lightning solenoids were designed for progressive use

they will go a racing season without rebuild with progressive use

from the nx tech rep, on the phone

Subscribed.... curious Jarek as to how your build comes out, as I want to do a setup with s1 cams too. I will have my ecu tuned tho once I'm cammed so my homework will consist of what nitrous setup will suit me best and, transmission upgrades to support it.

take your time

this is my 4th year studying
been collecting parts for 2 years

getting close now

have fun studying
lets review a few early learning's

don't mix parts from different manufacturers unless you know the components match

NX and NOS use different hose end angles

NOS uses AN
NX uses D-
they don't match

note different angle on end pieces, but same NPT thread

Most nozzles come threaded 1/16 NPT or 1/8 NPT
our smaller intake tract does better with 1/16 nozzles

less obstruction and still good to 150 n20 horses
imo

NX piranha 1/16" nozzle

and for the end of our reveiw
a biggie

not all bottle valves, even from the same manufacturer are the same
they may differ in valve end size

the bare bones kits, may come with 330cga valve ends and most common accessories won't fit

make sure your valve is 660 cga

for example all NX bottles come with 660 cga valve ends
except the mainline bottle valve which is 330 cga

i have the mainline bottle
so when i ordered a NOS solenoid bottle opener
it did not fit
as it was fitted for 660 cga valve end

round silver thingie

make sure your bottle is outfitted with a 660 cga valve end
if you wish to use common accessories
imo

note they don't show you the valve end
on bare bones kits
ask before you buy

Does $100 a bottle sound expensive for a 10lbs bottle?

And how important is a purge kit and what happens to the air in the lines if not released by purging?

Purging sounds dirty eh LOL Purge on them bitches LOL

thanks for the excuse not to do my homework right now

if new
100 bucks is cheap

if used, depends on condition, valve used
and does it have a gauge

a purge allows a harder initial hit
w/o it, air in the lines, for a sec,
it will run rich, not enough n20 supplied for required o2

some people like that
i clear the n2o, during burnout or just after
[mine comes in [will/did] at 4200 rpm
before i get to the line

going to use my present mainline n2o solenoid later as a purge valve
when i can afford nearly 300 bucks for new lightning solenoids
capable of progressive use

oh wow
this n2o stuff is moving upscale too fast

forgot about
1]have to change back to real motor mounts [solids]
2]new manifold cost
3] the re dyno tuning to utilize it

then all over again on the dyno
with the giggles installed

plus the anticipated plumbing
braided AN lines much easier than SS
a shower head fuel splitter

it was dynotuned today
working so can't watch

i expect low and midrange will be lower
but may pick up some hp on the upper end

different car all over again

i really enjoyed for the street, the rubber mt/shock combo
but disaster on the strip

looks to be about $1700 in the n2o system
should pull at least a 100 shot

450 in the ported mani alone
275 basic n20 kit
260 bottle warmer
230 bottle opener
120 n20 and fuel pressure gauges
400 progressive controller
300 for progressive solenoids
plus the plumbing of 4 nozzles
dyno tune not included at least 500

Which progressive controller did you go with?

want, desire, crave a NX max 4

but at $260 the NOS mini weighs heavily on my mind

friends, just want me to use a tps/window switch;
as long as i'm using the mainline NX solenoids
[approx $155]

while we are in here helping
catch this mistake, i almost made

remember this pic

does that set up match this nozzle?

no
that nozzle shoots at 90*

the holes are aimed directly at the ports
this kind of nozzle is required
straight shot
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nos-13700rnos/overview/

so i'll have to buy 4
