Hello Everyone,
My 05 Spec has a shift collar that needs to be lifted in order to get into reverse. One day it stopped working, which I orginally thought was no big deal as I could work around it. The next day I quickly realized I was missing 5th and couldn't get into 6th half the time. I removed the shift boot and surounding housing and stared until I understood what was happening.
This is a picture of an 05 spec which should be the same as an 06 from my understanding:
The white piece of triangular plastic is what prevents the operator from shifting into reverse unintentionally. It is supposed to be held in place ("in-place" is depicted above) by a tab/extension of the collar, and when lifted, allows the controllever to shift into reverse. My problem is that the collar has snapped like so:
Without this tab, the collar-return-spring and white-triangular-plastic-with-no-name free floats around the lever, making shifting unpredictable; 5th is a chore, and without understanding the problem, it felt like the linkage for reverse and 6th were interchanging.
There is hardly any info on this specific linkage in my tech resources, and the only solution I've heard of or been offered is purchasing a whole new controller assembly for $128 which I do NOT want do do. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Or know how to remove the shift collar from the control lever? Or think I can get away with epoxying this back together?
I'm open to all advice.
