I need a whole new exaust on my car! I am scared to not put a precat on my car because we run emission here in Sumner County TN. I know I could do it and move my o2 sensor but im not looking to get in any trouble at all. ANy help please!!
Ok I got this lol I'm a Sumner county native and have went through the same thing.
Go ahead and get a header, that should be the first thing you do to your car.
Now I had a shop called Pat's Automotive in Lafayette, TN put it on for me and they only charged $60, real cool guys.
The next step would be to put on the catback exhaust , any muffler shop should be good, I would recommend 4 way muffler in Gallatin, they've done work for me before.
Also have them weld in an o2 bung immediately after the catalytic converter, there should be 13 inches from where the o2 sensor is currently and where the new o2 bung is welded in.
This will cause a code to pop up on your car, there's a shop in Gallatin called "Public Safety Radio", it's near Guild Elementary school
(I can give you the address if you need it) they will be able to move your second o2 sensor behind the catalytic converter
and I believe they are the only shop in the county that can rewire it, trust me I looked forever.
Real cool guys here they charged me $55 to put it on and I would recommend getting a new o2 before going there,
just make sure you go to Autozone and pick up the correct sensor because they are made differently.
When it comes time for emissions you will have nothing worry about, there is no visual inspection just an OBD test also there is no sniffer test.
Doing what I explained will keep it legal and fairly cheap, you won't have to switch out parts for emissions or go through any hassle.
Just keep your main cat and enjoy life without the stock manifold.
As for sound and legality, TN as a whole is allowed to judge the sound how they wish but technically anything "loud and excessive"
could get you pulled over although I've had my exhaust on my car for over a year and been all over the state I've never been pulled over anywhere.
As for fuel, just by changing the header and exhaust will not require you to change your fuel or any fuel related parts. You would run into that if you were going turbo.
Hope this helps you out, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
